Entrepreneurs gear up for Australia’s creative tech Startup Weekend
Techstars, in collaboration with QUT Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA), is about to launch their Startup Weekend Creative Tech event from 2-4 March. The event will bring over 100 designers and developers to present and workshop the next big creative tech idea.
Creative tech teams embark on a three-day frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekend finishes with participants pitching their startups to local entrepreneurs and investors. CEA Program Manager, Philippe Ceulen highlights the importance of the event.
Why the event is important
CEA joined forces with Techstars to create the only creative tech focussed Startup Weekend (SW). This is a booming industry globally and we realised the need to provide a framework to Australians who could support early stage ideas and promote budding entrepreneurs to just start!
In an energetic 54 hours, students, entrepreneurs and technologists will unite to develop concepts into startups. The SW model has been used more than 3,000 times worldwide and owing to that success, we knew this was the right program format to deliver startup content in a way that resonates with our community.
What’s involved/how many teams?
The event will bring together around 120 designers, developers and non-technical expertise. Everyone will be invited to pitch their ideas and from there, groups will be formed to workshop the startup across the weekend. Sunday night will showcase the final pitches and culminate with the winner being awarded the top gong of SW’s best startup pitch.
What prizes are involved?
The winning startup will be treated to a host of in-kind prizes which have been generously donated by our partners Pitcher Partners, HopgoodGanim Lawyers, Red Bull, BOP Industries, Optus Innov8 and Myriad. This prize pool will include tickets to major startup festivals, tech goodies (including Samsung phone, vouchers and hologram projector), expert mentoring and access to further business development opportunities.
